Directors / Staff

Allison Field, Band Director / Winter Percussion Director

Allison is in her 16th year of teaching, 7th year as the band director at Mater Dei High School. Allison is originally from Salem, Indiana but moved to Evansville to attend the University of Evansville. At the University of Evansville, Allison earned her Bachelors Degree in Secondary Music Education. Since graduating from the University of Evansville Allison has helped with several local high school bands as a percussion instructor/percussion caption head. In 2020, she graduated from Kent State University with a Master's of Music Education degree.

 

Allison enjoys performing as a percussionist in local musical productions. 

Meghan Carter, Assistant Director / Color Guard Instructor

Meghan Carter has been the Choir director and Guard director at Mater Dei High School since 2016. She attended school in Cedar Hill, MO, but moved to Evansville to attend college.  She graduated with high honors from the University of Evansville in 2015, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and studied clarinet with Dr. Thomas Josenhans. She was named the music department's "Presser Scholar" in 2014. Mrs. Carter also received a minor in Mathematics from UE and was inducted into the Mathematics Honor Society. At Mater Dei, she works with Marching Band, Choir, Winter Guard, Musical, and Stage Show students. Mrs. Carter has a passion for working with high-school Fine Arts students and hopes to encourage these students to pursue their creative aspirations.

Devyn Haas, Junior Band Director / Marching Staff

Devyn is in her 2nd year of teaching, 1st year at Mater Dei. She is the Junior Band Director and teaches band at St. Wendel, Westside Catholic, Holy Redeemer, and Resurrection. Devyn is a native of Evansville, Indiana and graduated from Harrison High School. After graduation, Devyn attended the University of Evansville. Devyn earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education and Jazz Studies in 2020.

In her free time, Devyn enjoys playing the saxophone in local groups. She also enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, and spending time with her cat, Binx.

Justin Carter, Music Teacher CCS / Visual/Music Marching Band Staff

Justin Carter has been on staff with Mater Dei since 2010 under former marching director Alex Smith. Justin earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Evansville where he studied Music Education and Music Therapy. He is currently in his 12th year of teaching in the Diocese as the music teacher at Corpus Christi School where he directs the school plays and musicals as well as instructing ISSMA competition groups and soloists. In addition to Mater Dei marching band, Justin can be found near the pool serving as the swim coach for Mater Dei.

In his free time, Justin enjoys camping and seeing the world with his wife and daughter Logan.

Brittany Hildenbrand, Junior Band / Marching Band Staff

Brittany is currently in her 1st year of teaching. She teaches at St. James and St. Philip as well as helping with the Mater Dei marching band. Brittany is a native of Evansville, Indiana and graduated from Evansville North High School. After graduation, Brittany attended the University of Evansville where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 2020. During her time at UE, Brittany was a part of several ensembles from Jazz Band to Orchestra and played multiple instruments for each.

Brittany is an active performer in the Evansville area, and is the principal oboist for the Evansville Symphonic Band.

Doug Goodwin, Drill Writer / Show Design

Mr. Doug Goodwin currently serves as the Director of Bands at the Helfrich Park STEM Academy in Evansville, IN.  He has established a fine reputation as an educator, guest conductor, drill designer, clinician, and judge throughout the United States.  He received his Music Education degree from Ball State University and his Masters from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. 

 

Having served as the drill designer at Mater Dei since 2005, Doug began his career as the Assistant Director of Bands at Gibson Southern High School.  The "Marching Titans" were BOA Regional Class Champions and were crowned the ISSMA Class C State Champions.  While teaching at Scottsburg High School, he founded the Concert Percussion Ensemble, which was named a 2014 WGI Open Class finalist at the World Percussion Championships and the WGI Mid-South Percussion Regional Class Champion.  


Doug Goodwin feels blessed to have been recently appointed to serve as the drill designer of DCI's Open class Drum Corps The Battalion.  He is very proud of many previous students who have earned music degrees, and those currently serving as music teachers or performers in many drum corps, bands and professional orchestras across the US. Mr. Goodwin currently resides in Evansville, IN with his wife Lydia and young daughter Magnolia Elise and son Anderson.

Anna Schneider, Guard Staff

Anna is currently in her 1st year on staff with the Mater Dei Band. Anna is a 2020 graduate of Mater Dei High School. At Mater Dei, Anna participated in color guard and winter guard for 5 years, beginning in her 8th grade year. She is currently attending the University of Southern Indiana as a nursing major. One day, Anna hopes to be a travel nurse and work in the pediatric unit.
